Wish You Were Here
New Works from Kevin Passmore
Also featuring John Phillip's sculptured birds
'Wish You Were Here' is a long awaited compilation of Passmore's newest works, showcasing his talent for colour and beauty.
Taking inspiration from his childhood love of colouring in books and Disney comics plus his love of photography, Passmore's works ''reconcile the eye of the photographer with the eye of the child''.
Passmore also draws influence from his study and practice of Zen Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta; their key ideas of emptiness and impermanence.
"Painters have given scant attention to our extraordinary rainforest that once covered much of our country. When it has been treated it tends to be viewed objectively from a distance rather than from the experience of being present within it. My work here is an attempt to elicit that experience - the 'bush-walk' in one of the most beautiful areas of native bush, the Cacade Kauri Park in the Waitakere Ranges. The tracks are evidence of human presence and invite us to participate"
