Being a wildlife artist born to a professional British photographer father, a mother with a flair for pottery and a sister portraitist, Claire Erica has had a very colourful and creative life.
This showcase of Claire's latest work explores our everyday feelings - how we as people grow, develop and change, connecting with our inner observer and critic. Becoming in touch with our true selves. The power, which comes with living congruently and being attuned to our essential nature. For Claire, the colours and subject choice of this body of work culminate from what she feels is her truest creativity, and therefore, her best self.
The piece titled ‘It’s Our Journey‘ is about the world being at our feet. The possibilities are endless, so feel the magic of the Tui - be your best and go for it. Next is ‘The Awakened’, where we are now looking out with the Kingfishers clear intention; pristine in his suit, our best foot forward. ’Better together‘ comments on our relationships with other people. They are there with us along our journey, essential to our growth. Fantails are happy little birds that bring us joy by just being there. ‘Self‘ takes a step back with the idea that it’s ok to do it alone. Be your own best friend. This series of paintings are best as a set, stronger together.
It’s so important in today’s world to ‘Teach Our Children well’. Show them not only the dangers, but prove we can live peacefully among them. Things are not always real. We are so ready to make things look appealing - ‘Make It Pretty Kaka’ - but we are perfect as we are, really. Imperfection is what makes us true. ‘Live with imagination‘ pushes our perspectives. Some things are not always as they seem.
The painting technique used here is very similar to the ceilings where history and knowledge shared is still so valid today. The personality of the fantail is fun and pleasing, determined and quick, there is no doubt they know where they are going. ‘The Like Minded’ is a time when we have found our clan, our people who believe what we believe. It is with these people where we are, or become, our ’Truest Self’. They empower us to be the best version of ourselves. They make life great.
Follow the narrative, or simply enjoy the paintings for what they do for you, all that they make you feel. After all, at its basest form, that's what Claire is all urging us to do.
